Diversifying your identity.

Far too often people end up comparing themselves to other people in one way or the other. Something or the other is competition. I used to feel the need to be the best; believe me when I say it was exhausting and actually, quite pointless. There's always going to be someone better than you at something and that's perfectly fine. Many people (including me once upon a time), identify themselves with the one thing that they are good at and try hard to be the best, if they aren't, they feel worthless. You are not that single thing.

And that's why it is important to diversify your identity. I read an article about this long ago and it made so much sense! : https://markmanson.net/diversify-your-identity

This is the highlight:

What do you care about? I mean, what do you really care about? Invest yourself in a wide range of areas. If you like music, start attending concerts or learn an instrument. Don’t just travel as a vacation, but invest in learning about the cultures. Learn a new language. Make time for old friends. Pick up new hobbies. Expand yourself beyond your work and your relationships. Go out for no other reason than to be with your friends. Learn how to dance. Take some time off work. Attend a meditation retreat.
And don’t just do something else, but care about it, invest yourself in it. -Mark Manson

Taking some time to try out new things and explore can make all the difference in your life. It keeps you feeling excited and so alive. I'm starting to become a staunch follower of diversifying my identity and I can already see it making me a happier, more positive person. It makes me feel unique, it makes me feel like I am a mixture of so many things and I don't feel the need to be the best because I'm perfectly happy to just be me.

I'm growing (slowly-but it's a start) but by standards that I set for myself. I don't care for competition, I just want to be a better version of myself and that's an amazing feeling to have! If you haven't, then think about it...

It's better to be the only than to be the best.
