Life is a dance.

Yes, you heard it right. Life is a dance. I recently finished a book called, 'The courage to be disliked', and I came across this :
"Life is a series of moments, which one lives as if one were dancing.....with dance, it is the dancing itself that is the goal and no one is concerned with arriving somewhere by doing it."
And I thought it was amazing!
We often think about life as a series of goals to be achieved: first to get through school, then to join college as per your parents' wishes, then to get a job you hate but go to anyway, to try and get promoted so you can boss around some people, to get married and then sprout a few children and bring them up, to take over their lives and make them miserable by imposing your wishes on them, etc, etc. And of course you tell yourself that you're having fun in your free time, spending time with your friends and that you love your family and life is not too bad.
Or you might be some rich person living off your parents' wealth, not giving a damn about school or college, because, of course, you're going to take over your dad's business. You don't have to work your ass off. All you have is free time...then I'll get back to you in a later post.
But the book talks about living in the now, earnestly and conscientiously. When you try to live your life trying to get somewhere and say suddenly you are met with impeding death, then you will more likely than not, feel like your life is incomplete, you have not yet gotten to where you want to be.
Whereas, if you consider life as a series of moments and try to make each moment as meaningful as possible, living your life in the now, whenever your life ends, it is always complete.
But that it not to say you should not dream of achieving anything. No, not at all. But the focus, instead of being on the end result should be on the day to day act of striving to achieve it. It doesn't matter whether or not you achieve it, you can only give your very best every day and enjoy the journey and see yourself grow and become a better person.
The past has no hold over you, you have no hold over the future. So, yes, live now.
