The center of your Universe

You are the center of only YOUR Universe.
We forget that far too often. How many times have you replayed something embarrassing that happened to you in public and cringed over and over again? How many times have you gotten annoyed with someone when they didn't react or reply quite the way you wanted them to? How many times have you argued with a friend that "It should have been obvious!"?
Think about the last time you witnessed someone embarrassing themselves in public. Do you even remember their face? Probably not. And even if you do, have you given it any thought till now? Nope, you probably have other important stuff to think about. Isn't that the same thing when it comes to you? So, the next time you find yourself replaying cringe-y moments in your head, just remember that no one cares.
And we unconsciously expect other people to behave the way we want them to. We expect them to understand what we are thinking because, of course, it seems so obvious to us and we expect other people to remember what we said or did or take note of us.
The hard truth is, you are not anyone's priority. We are just passing characters in the story of anyone else, they are the lead characters, just as you are in yours.
No one is obliged to behave the way you want them to and expecting them to is only setting yourself up for disappointment. And no one knows what you're thinking so whatever it is-even if it seems obvious to you- you have to communicate.
It is liberating once you actually realize this. You'll stop setting expectations from people and it will make your life far, far easier. You become less likely to get disappointed. And when they do something thoughtful, you'll feel more gratified because you realize that they have actually taken the time and effort to think about you and that means a lot more that you think it does.
